Minolta 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 II

This lens was kit lens for some Minolta SLRs. It was produced since 1997. It's not problem to buy a used one in very goo condition today. Body is made from plastic and has rubbered zooming ring. Front element is rotating when focusing. It's full-frame lens.

Depth of field and precision of focus

I tried depth of field on 28, 35 a 80mm focal lengths. Precision of focus is good, but pictures might be more sharp in detail. Lines are sharp, but structure of paper is not as good as with Sony SAL1855.

Distortion and abberation

I tested distortion on 28, 35, 50 a 80mm focal lengths. Lens has big barrel distortion at 28mm. It gets better with higher focal length and it mostly disappears at 50mm. Abberation is red or blue and is mostly visible at corners. It mostly disappears when stopped down.

Conclusion

I used these lens for only short time, but I was satisfied with them. The biggest problem was image guality for close-up photos. I was satisfied with speed of focus and colours. It's little bit worst than Sony SAL1855, but I think it can be used as backup lens thanks to weight and size. Rating 29/40.
